As a third year college student majoring in political science and dreaming of eventually becoming a leader of this great nation, whether it be senator or whatever, I can't help but wonder why a president who should be instilling diversity and acceptance for all walks of life would want to destroy the pure foundation of our Constitution by adding a ban on gay marriage. Now I am more than likely going to be sounding contradictory, but these are my views and what I believe. On a personal level I believe marriage should be a union between a man and a woman, however on a political level I believe in equality. As stated in the Constitution all men are created equal and we all have the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness as well as the right to privacy. By placing an amendment in the Constitution defining what marriage is in the United States, we are tainting the most important piece of paper ever written. It gives us unalienable rights that shall not be infringed upon, it preaches equality for all man, but Mr. Bush is attempting to turn the Constitution into a hypocracy because of his own personal views. Yes this nation was founded on Christian principles, but shown just recently in the news we are to have a seperation of church and state, and so speaking about government and the way each American should live their life, as Americans it is our duties to put our principles aside and realize our laws must not be based on Christian beliefs if it will be limiting the freedoms we were given at birth and guaranteed under the Constitution. Our founding fathers died for us to have the freedom we have today. As Americans we must stand up for what is equal even if it means to set aside what we believe to be right.
